Contributor's comments: As an ex-resident of Pooraka, SA, I have never heard of the term "Pooraka perm" - however, there were a couple of fairly dodgy hairdressers which had a fondness for the "poodle perm" for the older ladies, but I would have thought that was State - or even country - wide affliction, rather than Pooraka taking the responsibility for the bad perms.
