To say that something has happened sooner than expected or has crept up quickly. Heard in the 1960s when I lived in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia (therefore may have German orgins): Summer has arrived already yet so soon.
Contributor's comments: As a child growing up in the early 1950s in the Barossa Valley and later in the Riverland, this was a common expression and probably used as a put-down of the many older German speaking people living in the areas.
Contributor's comments: My father came from Guelph in Canada and his German speaking ancestors came from Alsace Lorraine. They use "already yet" - I think it meant "now".
Contributor's comments: Used by German decendants in the Hahndorf area when I was at school there during the 1930s.
