Contributor's comments: Never heard this usage but commonly used in Perth is "Up North" (as in "he's gone up north to work") and as opposed to "down south" ("Are you going down south for the long weekend?") and over east (my sister's working over east for a couple of months).
Contributor's comments: We always used "up" when playing hide and seek. It meant the person who had to close their eyes and count to 100 and then seek the others.
