Contributor's comments: I have heard the word verse used in the same way by children in several primary schools in Ballarat and district over the past year (2002-2003). eg We versed the "....." team at netball/football yesterday.

It is very common parlance among primary school children in Canberra in a variety of sporting situations. I'm not sure about secondary."
