New Yorker

a layered cake made in a tray and then cut into blocks and sold as a piece. Pastry on the bottom, a layer of custard on top of that, then a layer of cream on top of that, all topped by a sticky chocolate coated piece of pastry. Yum: For lunch I had a sandwich and a New Yorker.

Contributor's comments: As an aside, in North America (I am writing from Toronto) we call these Neopolitan Squares and believe, either rightly or wrongly, that they orginiated in Italy.

Contributor's comments: Closest thing I knew in Canberra or Sydney was a "vanilla slice". Whatever. They were delicious, weren't they?
