well
used at the end of a sentence, only heard in Newcastle or from Newcastle residents (or ex-residents); no real meaning, just a lazy way of ending a sentence or phrase: I'm going to town, well.
Contributor's comments: "Well" or "but" used at the end of a sentence was common in Brisbane when I moved here from the UK in 1967. Both of these are included in the book "Head over Heels" by Hugh Lunn. I have not heard this for some years now. It seems to have died out.
Contributor's comments: This is an expression that I hadn't heard for many years but which was common among my peers of primary school and early high school age in the 1950s and 1960s.
