Queenslander

An old weatherboard high-set house, originally from the 1800's but nowadays attributed to any older house: I live in the old Queenslander in Grimshaw Street; We spend every weekend renovating our Queenslander.

Editor's comments: Do others use this term to refer to any older house (as opposed to the high-set, verandahed style)?

Contributor's comments: Queenslander seems to be in general use in NE Victoria - always referring to elevated weatherboard houses in Qld.

Contributor's comments: In my experience, Queenslanders always have to be on stumps -- lots of older houses aren't anything like a Queenslander.
