Contributor's comments: In northern Sydney bin man/men is used as a shortened version of garbage bin men (also known as "garbos"). A saying often heard is, "I was woken up at 5.30 this morning by the bin men".
Contributor's comments: Bin men were the men who emptied the rubbish bins in the UK. Never heard them called anything but garbos in Australia. There was a UK comedy program called The Bin Men at one time.
