Contributor's comments: I only heard the term chalet when living in Hobart. On the North West Coast where I grew up, we referred to them as Granny Flats.
Contributor's comments: "Chalet" is alos widely used in WA. I should know I rent a holiday house and people VERY OFTEN telephone me to ask "How much is your chalet per week?".
