Contributor's comments: A friend who works in the building trade told me that when he arrived in Perth in the late 70s, fellow building workers commented that he "must be from over east" when he referred to a shifter. He says the word "shifter" is now in more common use in Perth.
Contributor's comments: I can confirm Perth usage of this word, but want to add that the full name is actually a "crescent wrench".
