taxi
Indicates that someone has had too much to drink and needs a taxi to take them home; chorused in unison when a crash/breakage occurs at a party.
Contributor's comments: Definitely used in Adelaide.
Contributor's comments: My children and their friends, working in the hospitality industry as many students do, seem to have extended "TAXI!!!" into the domestic scene, so any breakage or clumsiness at home gets the cry (just after the crash) of TAXI!!
Contributor's comments: This term is used regularly in Melbourne, particularly among uni students. Will be used when someone has fallen over drunk, or (most often) when a drink is spilled, as well as breaking a glass.
Contributor's comments: Amongst schoolboys in Brisbane in the late forties a "taxi' was a particular type of marble (as in taw or alley). My recollection is that it was opaque, yellow and green with distinct border between colours. Pattern was a bit like an irregular tennis ball, yin-yang sort of thing. Not particularly prized.
