jarred
To be told off, as a kid this word was use in schools between 73 to sometime in the 80s I think: Jeff got jarred by the teacher for throwing rocks.
Contributor's comments: Used in northern Tasmania for any kind of reprimand.
Contributor's comments: I have heard this in Brisbane to mean more like the word "snubbed" - ie. someone intentionally and obviously ignoring someone else. "Lisa has been totally jarring me lately!"
Contributor's comments: Also used interchangeably with "sucked in" in some Riverina schools in the early to mid-1980s (at least).
