signal cabin
noun a raised cabin above a railway line, from which railway signals, points, etc., are worked.
Contributor's comments: Never heard this called a cabin when I was living in Queensland. It was called a "signal box".
Contributor's comments: I think the railway term signal cabin (or signal box) is universally used in the English speaking world and is not at all a regionalism, not even exclusively Australian.
