Lewis Carroll contributed some of the most inspirational writing in history to the world. With his remarkable manipulation of language, he captured the imaginations not only of children, but of aspiring writers, readers and everyone else who came in contact with his word. His most well-known character of course, is Alice, and her adventures in Wonderland and through the looking glass will be forever remembered with great joy and appreciation.
And we at the Macquarie Dictionary will remember them just as fondly. In fact, Lewis Carroll has also contributed a number of words to the Australian English language. He invented a great number of new words, and while not all of them made it into widespread circulation, many did.
We have gathered a few together to celebrate the many neologisms that Carroll contributed to modern language.
